GWENT Gets Their Own Official Esports And Story-Driven Campaign

The makers of GWENT, the card battle game featured in The Witcher series, are taking another step further than just providing the card game as a stand alone title. CD Projekt Red has announced both a story-driven campaign and official esports set up for players to face off and claim the title as the best GWENT player in all the land!

The campaign will be titled GWENT: Thronebreaker and it spins a truly regal tale of Meve — a war-veteran queen of two Northern Realms. Facing an imminent foreign invasion, Meve is forced to once again enter the warpath, and sets out on a dark journey of destruction and revenge. Check out their trailer:

This campaign is going to take players to new locations not previously traveled in The Witcher, follow thought provoking quests, gather resources, as well as engage in custom-made story battles, which twist the game’s rules in wildly unexpected ways! Thronebreaker is planned to release this year on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

But, no matter how amazing the story trailer is, the more exciting side of the news here certainly falls on the esports announcement! Calling the tournament GWENT Masters, and organized by CD PROJEKT RED themselves, they invite players to compete across a brand new, season-based mode and a variety of official and licensed tournaments for a spot in the grand finale of the series and the title of first ever GWENT World Champion!
