A few weeks ago, actor Henry Cavill, who is known for playing Superman in DC’s movie franchise had expressed his interest in playing Geralt on the upcoming TV adaptation of The Witcher series. Now, it has been confirmed that Cavill will indeed star in Netflix’s upcoming show.
While promoting his latest movie, Mission Impossible: Fallout, Cavill revealed that he is a fan of both the novel and game series of The Witcher and fans began speculating whether Cavill will be right for the role. Now, Netflix executives seemed to think so as the streaming giant confirms Cavill’s casting in the upcoming adaptation of The Witcher.
This will mark Cavill’s return to television since his role in the 2010 historical drama, The Tudors. As it turns out, when Cavill expressed his interest in playing Geralt of Rivia last month, he already knew that was accepted for the role as showrunner Lauren Hissrich revealed on Twitter. “
"He was my first meeting. I didn’t have writers or scripts yet - just a green light and a lot of passion. That was four months ago, and I’ve never forgotten the passion he brought. He is Geralt. He always has been. I’m so thrilled to welcome Henry Cavill to The Witcher Family."
The voice actor for Geralt in the game series, Doug Cockle, approves of the decision as it is reported that he has given Cavill his blessing to play the suave Witcher in Netflix’s adaptation.
Netflix’s The Witcher still doesn’t have an official air date as of now.
