Back in April of 2022, indie developers Asteroid Lab teamed up with Goblinz Studios to release their Sci-Fi Mars colony-building simulator Terraformers into Early Access on Steam. Since then, Terraformers has received rave reviews even in Early Access, and now it is officially leaving Early Access and launching its 1.0 version on March 9th.
In Terraformers, Mars is your new home. Players will build their cities from the ground up, manage resources, research new technologies, and terraform the Red Planet from a barren expanse to a lush and hospitable planet. As with all 4X and base-building games, management and careful planning will be key to any player’s success. As players progress through the game their population will grow and with it their scientific research and through that access to new machines and technology to use to improve their colony. Players will need to explore their planet and nearby ones to discover new technologies and materials. Transporting oceans from nearby celestial bodies, building space mirrors or restarting volcanoes, spreading adaptive bacteria, and planting forests are just some ways players can use to geo-engineer their new home.
In addition to tracking their resources, in Terraformers players will need to keep track of their population. As the world’s population increases so will the demands on the players, attention, time, and resources. Players can manage their population by building structures and terraforming to create forests, parks, entertainment centers, and homesteads, all of which will help players gain their population’s support.
Some of the new features coming up for 1.0 will include:
The ability to found new cities on the nearby moons of Phobos and Deimos.
The ability to construct new buildings, complete new space projects, and research new technologies.
Players will contend with five new events, including a catastrophic asteroid event.
There will be two new leaders, each with their own background, skills, and perks.
There will be a Weekly Challenge mode, where players can enjoy a specific game each week with modifiers and test their skills in multiple difficulties while having their success streak tracked.
There will be new animations to make cities more lively.
Terraformers is available now in Early Access on PC via Steam and GOG, and the 1.0 version will be available on March 9th.
