It’s not very often that a Kickstarter project truly grabs my attention, but when I saw the game I will tell you about today, I had a “Shut up and take my money!” moment. From newfound developer Norman Company and Mythcarver Games, A Frog’s Tale is celebrating its successful funding on Kickstarter. Reaching more than its $60,000 goal in less than 5 days, A Frog’s Tale still has several weeks to secure funding for its campaign.
The game is a turn-based RPG with a rhythmic twist. Looking at its very detailed campaign page, we can see that the game draws inspiration from games like Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Kingdom Hearts, and Tales of Symphonia. The developer is taking meticulous steps in creating an engaging soundtrack that times up not only with environmental effects for light platforming challenges, but even the battle system of the game is reliant on the soundtrack.
As players battle across this hand-animated fantasy world, they will discover A Frog’s Tale’s unique spin on a classic formula. Like some of its inspirations, the game will use a rhythm-based system for attacking enemies. As you can see in the GIF below, the game uses timed button presses in combination with strategic decision-making to create a wholly new, yet somehow familiar battle system.
The Kickstarter campaign for Rhythm RPG A Frog’s Tale is live until July 11th.
