Something that was a surprise to fans of Valve everywhere was their release of a free short game called Aperture Desk Job. Themed around having a desk job in Aperture labs, the science facility that the Portal series takes place in, this game will let players have a quick experience in the world we have longed to see brought back with a new title.
Desk Job re-imagines the been-there-done-that genre of walking simulators and puts them in the lightning-spanked, endorphin-gorged world of sitting still behind things. You play as an entry-level nobody on their first day at work - your heart full of hope and your legs full of dreams, eager to climb that corporate ladder. But life's got other plans, and they all involve chairs.
Aperture Desk Job is a completely free-to-play short game on Steam and it is available right now. There is no saying what this means for the Portal series, if anything. The game is also playable on the new Steam Deck handheld system that they recently released, so it could be a test game for the console for all we know. While we don’t like to spread rumors here at GameTyrant, it is curious that they would suddenly release a short free experience in the very lab that many have been waiting for a new chance to get back into.
