Is Capcom Up To Something By Changing RESIDENT EVIL'S Profile Picture To A Retro Logo Of The Game?

A few minutes ago, Capcom changed the profile picture (posted above) of Resident Evil's social media pages. So before you attack me and ask why this is news, bear with me for a second here. If you check out the social media sites of Resident Evil, you'll notice that Capcom changed the profile picture into something that fans of the game since the beginning would be able to notice. Check out the cover of the original Resident Evil game to see the resemblance of the font.

So the new profile picture is a retro logo of Resident Evil that was primarily used in the original Resident Evil and was also used in some versions of the front covers for Resident Evil 2 and 3. So what's the big deal? Well, it has been three years when Capcom announced their plans to develop a remake of the fan favorite Resident Evil 2 (check video below if you haven't seen the announcement back in 2015). The company has been silent about this since the team's was mainly focused on Resident Evil 7. Now since RE7 is out of the way, is Capcom hinting that they will be giving an update on Resident Evil 2's progress?

We're pleased to confirm that the Resident Evil 2 Remake Project has been officially approved! Capcom's Producer for the title, Yoshiaki Hirabyashi a.k.a. H, from R&D Division 1, commented: "It's been great to see so many positive comments from fans that have pushed the project to get approved.

Personally, I still prefer the original Resident Evil than Resident Evil 2. Don’t get me wrong, I love RE2 but there’s something about an abandoned mansion in the middle of the forest that gives me the chills. However, since RE1 has been remade and was even remastered a couple of years back, it’s safe to assume that if Capcom is giving a clue about a classic game, it’s not about the original Resident Evil even if the font used in the profile picture was primarily used by RE1 than RE2 and RE3 who had their own font in their covers, but also used the original font in some versions.

As of this writing, 30 minutes have passed since Resident Evil made the change on its social media pages, but on their Facebook page, the profile picture has already reached 2,000 likes, 94 comments, and 60 shares, which clearly shows that fans are getting hyped with the possible clue dropped by Capcom. Check out some of the comments made by fans on Facebook.

I am more than positive that an announcement will be made by Capcom regarding the upcoming remake of the classic sequel to Resident Evil. I mean, why else would they change the profile picture to an old logo that’s clearly dated on today’s standards? Hopefully, the Resident Evil 2 remake would also include the events of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis in one game, since both games happened during the infamous Raccoon City Incident. Of course, I would be happy to see Leon and Claire on their first encounter with the T-Virus, but Jill Valentine beating Nemesis with today’s graphics, will be totally epic if you ask me.

What do you think about the change with the profile picture of Resident Evil? Are we on the right track with our Resident Evil 2 remake predictions? Or are we overthinking this? Share your thoughts in the comments below. Don't forget to check out our retro review of Resident Evil 2 here.
