It's Gods Versus Guns In FLINTLOCK: THE SIEGE OF DAWN Behind the Scenes Trailer
Publisher Kepler Interactive and A44 Games have presented a peek behind the scenes of their upcoming title Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn. Featuring interviews with members of the development team, the trailer gives some direct insight into the world and the protagonist of the upcoming ARPG.
Derek Bradley, CEO and Game Director at A44, and Jimmy Bicknel, Game Design Lead, explain more about the world in which the game will take place. The world of Flintlock is one taken over by the old gods who have opened a door to the afterlife that resides within a realm known as the City of Dawn. The forces of mankind are desperate to close the gates of death again, and the advent of gunpowder has made it possible to take the fight to the deities and attempt to storm their stronghold.
COO and Casting Director Audrea Topps Harjo, alongside Bradley, outlined more about the protagonist, Nor Valek. Nor is one of the humans hoping to reclaim the City of Dawn, but she’s also pursuing a more personal vendetta: killing the terrifying eldritch god who murdered her father. Nor is definitely not setting her sights low.
The trailer also gives a nod to Nor’s lightning-spitting, vulpine companion, Enki, but it still leaves the beast’s origins a mystery. Enki’s name bears some similarity to the ‘Enkidu’, the wildman from the ancient Mesopotamian ‘Epic of Gilamesh’; this fact, combined with the distinct similarity of the faces of one of the other creatures shown in the artwork to depictions of Gilgamesh, might be a tantalizing hint at a running theme.
Jarratt Gray, Senior Game Designer at A44, goes a little into the game’s atmosphere, describing it as ‘grungy trench war’, which is a far cry from the bleak serenity of the studio’s previous offering, Ashen. The feature rounds off with expressions of eagerness and enthusiasm from the team.
Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is currently planned to release on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, and PC via Game Pass, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.
