Luminous Productions and Square Enix debuted another trailer for their upcoming PlayStation exclusive, Forspoken, this week on The Game Awards stage, showing off more of its world and the characters who inhabit it. This is the first trailer the game has had since its appearance at the PlayStation showcase earlier this year.
The trailer offers some new looks at the game’s story and its protagonist, Frey Holland. Stranded in a strange and unforgiving world, Frey is thrust into the middle of a turbulent conflict between the people of Alethia and their overbearing rulers.
This trailer shows off more of Frey’s character, as well as gives a closer look at another of the villainous Tantas in the game. There’s also some sort of corrupting plague that is spreading across the land and destroying everything it touches, which seems to have an emotional effect on Frey.
The trailer also showcases more of Frey’s magical abilities and traversal options. She can create powerful area-of-effect spells that deal damage to multiple enemies, and close long distances either by gliding across the terrain or by riding on a board made of ice. She will also have the ability to turn herself invisible to sneak past tough-looking foes.
Forspoken’s story is being crafted by a team of veteran game and film writers including Amy Hennig and Gary Whitta, and is set to launch on May 24, 2022, for the PS5 and PC via both Steam and the Epic Games Store.
