Kingdom Under Fire for the Xbox was one of my most played games on the system. The combination of real-time strategy and hack n slash gameplay was a fantastic blend I thoroughly enjoyed. Throw in the RPG elements of upgrading your units between missions and it was a combination that really couldn’t be beat. The game did well enough to get a prequel in 2005 and a less than successful RPG outing in 2008. When Kingdom Under Fire 2 was announced in 2008 I was ecstatic and couldn’t wait for the next proper entry in the series.
Well as you are all aware it is now 2019 and Kingdom Under Fire 2 never materialized, well at least not in the west. After the 2008 announcement the game went from being an Xbox 360/ PC game to having a PS3 version announced. A beta version released in 2011 for Korea players. Finally in 2013 it was announced that a PS4 version was going to be made with a 2014 release date. Another series of beta’s began in 2014 before being shut down in 2017. 2017 also marked the announcement of the Russian version of the game. A Russian Beta ran from 2017 to just this past March before being closed as well. with all versions seemingly cancelled, it looked like this was going to be the end of the story for the troubled sequel, that is until today.
Today it was announced that Blueside, the developers behind Kingdom Under Fire, have partnered with Gameforge, developers of AION, TERA, to finally commercially launch the game here in the west! Kingdom Under Fire 2 is slated to release later this year on PC through various distribution platforms. In a statement given through press release, Tomislav Perkovic, Chief Product Officer at Gameforge had this to say about the title.
“The Kingdom Under Fire series is a favorite among those of us at Gameforge, so we’re very excited to partner with Blueside to continue this epic saga and finally bring it to Western markets for the very first time. We are determined to help Blueside realize their vision of the ultimate MMO, launching Kingdom Under Fire 2 for Windows PC in North America and Europe later this year.”
Kingdom Under Fire 2 is set to take place 50 years after Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders and will again see three factions at war. With Gameforge now helping the project, I have high hopes we will finally see the full game released for everyone! Time to breakout Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders and Heroes in preparation of the release of Kingdom Under Fire 2 later this year!
