LET'S SING 2022 Review: Do You Get Deja Vu?

Xbox Series X|S Review Key Provided By Voxler

With each passing year, there are many IPs that spit out their annual releases. Things like Call of Duty, Madden, and at times, Assassin’s Creed had been known for such things. But now even games like Let’s Sing are being given the yearly update trend.

Let’s Sing 2022 brings in a whole new roster of songs to keep the party going with songs of old and fresh radio hits. Though the party can be a fun one for sure, it’s worth mentioning that the aesthetic and approach to these games may become too copy and paste in some aspects.

Gameplay

As with last year’s Let’s Sing 2021, 2022 brings in a simplistic yet engaging design to its gameplay. Matching pitch to your notes, all the while keeping pace with them as well can be quite a fun experience. Adding the layers of having friends or online players to engage with creates an even more lively time.

The songs especially are the stars of the show, featuring some of the greatest artists of our time and even past ones. I particularly love the fact that Voxler manages to sneak in a Christmas song and children’s song into each new entry into the series.

This year’s is probably the best, as we get Wham!’sLast Christmas” and Disney’s Aladdin’s A Whole New World”. Not to mention the great song packs that can also be purchased via the in-game store. I actually had a hard time picking which packs to grab because there are some really good ones in there.

All of the fun modes from last year’s title have returned with a few tune-ups and improvements to make gameplay even smoother. And though I was happy to see their inclusion, I was hoping to spot something exclusively new specific to this entry. Though I can understand that there is only so much you can do with a game such as this.

As with the returning gameplay modes, I noticed that all of the menus and even characters are exactly the same as last year’s game. While I love the look and feel of both games, it comes off kind of lazy that the devs couldn’t be bothered to make the menus look at all different from each other.

It makes me feel like all they feel they have to do is add in new songs, make a tweak here or there, and then call it a new game. If this is the route that they feel they want to be going, “games as a service” may be more fitting a template for them going forward.

Audio and Visual

The game’s audio and visual aspects come straight from the music videos for the songs it gives you. With that comes pros and cons. On the one hand, you’re able to sing to some of your favorite tunes while watching the corresponding music videos. Some of which are pretty iconic on their own.

On the other hand, if the video is older than 10 years, then there’s a chance that the visual aspect leaves much to be desired. I really would’ve liked to see some upgraded resolutions for some videos as they really don’t feel up to par compared to most of the others in-game.

Replayability

As I’m a sucker for a good music game, I find this to have tons of replay value. Whether you’re having a get-together, game night, or just want to belt out some tunes in your alone time, you really can’t go wrong here.

What It Could Have Done Better

My biggest critique about this game is that I feel like the devs are taking the easy way and doing the bare minimum. Experimenting with new modes or even just giving the game a new look would’ve really made this feel like a proper next step for the series.

Verdict

Even with its rinse and repeat feel from its predecessor, Let’s Sing 2022 is still a fantastically fun and clean game. The game modes are still as entertaining as ever and though I’d disagree with some aesthetic design choices, it’s really just a matter of opinion.

Regardless, Let’s Sing 2022’s greatest strength is giving players a truly fun musical experience. I truly appreciate that this series keeps the sub-genre open for music games to continually exist, and it does it in true party fashion.
