It’s been a while. It’s been a while since I reviewed a gaming keyboard. It’s been a while since I’ve seen such a cool-looking gaming peripheral. And it’s been a while since I played with magnets. When I was approached to test out a sample of MelGeek’s Cyber1 magnetic switch gaming keyboard, I was sure that I was about to venture into some unfamiliar territory.
Though I’ve had my fair share of run-ins with a mechanical keyboard or dozen, a keyboard with magnetic switches was a new ball game. But it was something I was sure that I was ready for. Was it ready for me? Let’s talk about it.
Features and Quality
The Cyber1 boasts a load of very fun features for keyboard enthusiasts. But in all honesty, most of these features come stock in many gaming keyboards these days. What’s most impressive, of course, is the fact that this keyboard uses magnets to register keystrokes. At first, it’s pretty interesting to feel, as the buttons almost magically slide exactly how you’d want them.
Though I’ve been a mechanical girly since high school, I don’t think I want to go back after having gone up a tier. Each key press feels buttery smooth and doesn’t miss a beat when recognizing your input. This is thanks to the fact that these magnetic switches allow for multiple activations upon a single press. In practice, you can activate rapid movements simply by pressing, slightly releasing, and then pressing back a bit more.
This kind of response from your keyboard makes your ability to dominate gameplay almost effortless. And while I had thought this would take some getting used to, I felt the most comfortable gaming with a keyboard than I ever have. It’s as if I’ve been waiting my entire life for this keyboard.
As far as durability is concerned, this is an absolute beast. When I first set up the keyboard on my desk, I was worried because its body has plastic parts. Admittedly though, I began to love the fact that it would this keyboard much easier to clean. It’s an extremely sturdy build overall too, plastic considered. This flies amongst the very best I’ve ever tested.
Feedback
There’s honestly not a single negative thing that I can say about the Cyber1. It has a reasonable price, coming in at $159, and offers players a very cool experience that can’t be had anywhere else. I say that because its design is just really really cool to look at. This adds so much “wow factor” to the whole experience overall, due in part to its cyber-industrial aesthetics that are reminiscent of the millennia.
Conclusion
It’s pretty clear that MelGeek has a pretty clear and well-executed vision when creating products for players. The quality, reliability, creativity, and ability of the Cyber1 magnetic switch gaming keyboard is something that I’d advise any hardcore gamer to jump at the first chance they get. This is a seriously cool keyboard and one that will transcend your current gaming experience.
