Pokémon day comes but once a year, offering a time of celebration to Pocket Monster fans around the world. It’s a day of joy that honors the nearly 30-year history of this legendary media franchise. From video games to cards to anime to international competitions, Pokémon has become one of the biggest IPs in the world, and Pokémon Day is a chance to revel in that legacy.
This year (as with many in the past), The Pokémon Company is throwing a party for Pokémon Day in the form of a new Pokémon Presents presentation. The 20-minute pre-recorded video will offer a bevy of Pokémon news, though no specific details were offered. Presentations in the past have focused on the entire Pokémon brand, including the trading card game, console video games, anime, and mobile games.
The latest expansion to the card game will likely appear in this presentation, as will updates to the various mobile games the Pokémon Company publishes. There will also likely be a lengthy tribute to Ash Ketchum as his tenure as the protagonist of the anime series is coming to end later this year.
But the most anticipated news will probably revolve around the long-rumored expansions to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Pokémon Sword and Shield received an expansion pass that added two, sizeable expansions to the base game, so many fans have been eagerly awaiting news of similar DLC to last year’s games.
At the very least, the Pokémon Company will likely tout the incredible sales figures Scarlet and Violet have posted in addition to fresh details about the promised updates to fix the game’s many technical issues.
The Pokémon Day Pokémon Presents will air on February 27th, 2023 at 6 am PST/9 am EST. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are available now for the Nintendo Switch.
