New Trailer Shows Off DESTINY 2 LIGHTFALL Gameplay

Destiny 2 is building up to its next big expansion, and as part of that build-up it showed off some new footage of the DLC at this year’s Game Awards. Lightfall is the next major beat in the nearly ten-year story Bungie has been telling with this series, and this expansion will bring us to Neptune and the city of Neomuna, the first truly metropolitan environment in Destiny history.

The trailer they showed at the Game Awards focuses largely on the action we can expect when the expansion drops on February 28th, 2023. The new subclass element, Strand, is on full display with ethereal threads stringing enemies in midair and inventive uses of the new grapple mechanic.

There are also a few, brief glimpses at some cinematics from the campaign, including a heated ship battle in outer space, a fleeting look at the Cloudchasers that call Neomuna home, and a Guardian riding on the outside of a spaceship. The Witness, the major antagonist of the game, is also shown standing in front of a rapidly growing tree.

Destiny 2’s final season of this year, Season of the Seraph, just began, and its story will lead directly into the events of the Lightfall. Guardians are currently attempting to restore the Warmind Rasputin to aid in the war against the Witness, even as other enemies seek to steal its power for themselves.

Destiny 2 Lightfall will launch on February 28th, 2023 for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC via Steam.
