Grinding Gear Games has announced that Path of Exile’s latest free expansion, Path of Exile: The Forbidden Sanctum will launch on Friday, Dec 9 for PC and Wednesday, Dec 14 for PlayStation and Xbox. This new expansion will feature a brand new Challenge League and some improvements to Path to Exile’s endgame, along with new skills, items, and balancing. It will also introduce Ruthless, an optional new way to play the game with extreme item scarcity.
The Forbidden Sanctum itself is a roguelike that takes place within Path of Exile. Players will explore a long abandoned sanctum rumored to be hidden beneath the Fellshrine Ruins. As they go through each area, they will have the opportunity to explore one room of the sanctum as they search for its valuable treasures. With these new exploration options, come along new skill gems like Volcanic Fissure and Frozen Legion, both massive AOE attacks that will help immensely in the depths of the sanctum. Endgame improvements allow players to invest deeper into the passive tree and buffed endgame weapons will increase longevity and encourage old players to return for the new content.
