NICKTOON AND THE DICE OF DESTINY Quick Review: A Great RPG For Kids!

If you’re a parent like me or just someone who grew up in the late ‘90s into the early ‘00s of peak Nicktoons shows and characters, then you may not be surprised by the fact that there’s a new Nicktoons-themed game every couple of years at this point. Luckily for us, the IP has taken a break from just karting games and has ventured its way into RPGs with Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny! And, I’ve got to say, if you’ve got kids in your life or if you’re a child at heart, then this may be for you.

Gameplay

Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny is an insanely cute, colorful, and engaging RPG title. Perhaps the most user-friendly I’ve ever played, this game really does its best to guide you into the world of RPG without making it feel both too simplistic and yet overly complex. It’s truly the best RPG title for its rated demographic of E-10+, as it’s a great gateway into those more complex games we see all of the time.

You get to pick from several Nicktoons characters, each with their own playstyle, attacks, powers, and animations. Each one really brings its A-game to reflect the individual show and character that they are. I started with Katara (Avatar: The Last Airbender) and really liked to see her skillset increase as I leveled up and collected new armor and enhancements through combat.

As I said, this game isn’t overly complex, so enemies can be a bit stupid and navigation can be a bit easier for us adults, but luckily, you can turn off navigation prompts as well as choose level-specific difficulty for each area to incentivise more intense combat for higher reward. I will say that there are actually a lot of different enemies that you’ll encounter, right off the bat, which left me impressed since many games similar to this just recycle enemies in abundance.

Feedback

What I would have liked to have seen from this title was my gang of Nicktoons on screen at all times. Though I understand that if I were to play with three other players locally that I would’ve made that happen, it still would be an exciting thing to see at all times. It’s a missed opportunity that saddened me a bit when I first started playing.

Conclusion

If there’s one thing I really want to hammer home in regards to Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny, it’s the fact that this title was made to be an entry-level RPG, and it totally succeeds at it. And not only does it do that job perfectly, it captures the love and personality that every character’s IP brings to the table through combat, story, and visuals. I love this game and hope you get the chance to play it for yourself.
