While 8 p.m. isn't hitting too many bed times on the West Coast, that's 11 p.m. on a Thursday on the East Coast! I get that Nintendo wants the console to sell well in its own country, but Japanese sales on a worldwide scale mean relatively nothing to the bulk of Europe (who will be forced to watch around (2 to 3 a.m.) North America and South America.
I guess that's why news outlets like us exist...but the move seems ignorant by Nintendo.
