Update 4/10: The three new NES titles are now available on the NES app and have been joined by a SP edition of Kid Icarus! The SP edition of Kid Icarus equips you right off the bat with the games 3 sacred treasures allowing you to skip right to the final levels. If that sounds like its going to be pretty tough don’t worry you will also have 999 hearts to tackle them with! Which game will you try first?
Nintendo Switch Online Subscribers will be getting an extra game this month as April 10 will bring the release of Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream and Star Soldier! Each game will be automatically added to the NES app on release day so as always there is no need to do anything extra to receive the games. As has become tradition over the last few months I imagine that we will also see some SP game additions on the 10th as well. Unfortunately, no warning of what those titles will be is ever given in advance. Check out a brief description of each upcoming game below!
Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels
Do you have what it takes to save the Mushroom Princess? Originally released in Japan as Super Mario Bros.® 2, this game has previously made only brief cameo appearances in the Western Hemisphere. Mario fans will appreciate the familiar look and feel of the game, while finding that its updated game play creates an entirely new challenge. In addition to the classic enemies already known to fans worldwide, there are also Poison Mushrooms, backward Warp Zones, and the occasional wind gust (which can help or hinder your progress). If that’s somehow not enough, expert players can go looking for the game’s secret worlds. So get ready to put your Mario skills to the ultimate test, and save the Princess again. Just don’t be surprised if she’s in another castle!
Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream
One of the best-selling Nintendo classics offers 14 tough matches filled with knockouts and boxing glory. As young boxer Little Mac, players have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to battle the big guys of the World Video Boxing Association circuit. Take them on one by one, starting with skinny Glass Joe. Battle up through King Hippo and all the way to the WVBA Champion himself. Players use their best jabs, hooks and powerful uppercuts to knock out opponents. They must also dodge jaw-breaking blows by paying attention to subtle changes in their foes’ body positions. With great graphics, engaging action and a touch of humor, this game will keep players entertained for hours.
Star Soldier
Guide the fastest space fighter through 16 stages of galactic warfare! The standard for vertically scrolling shooters, Star Soldier is the original game that spawned all of the titles in the long-running Soldier series. Go inside a floating space station inhabited by a giant computer known as Starbrain. Your mission: to stop Starbrain's galactic invasion by piloting Caesar, a new, compact space fighter through 16 deadly stages. Collect power capsules to increase three different attributes of your ship: firepower, movement speed, and defensive shields. Blast wave after wave of approaching enemies or use the innovative Trap Zone feature to fly beneath a land mass and avoid incoming fire. Conquer each stage to make your way to the final confrontation with Starbrain
