The Witcher releases on December 20th, so roughly a week remains until Netflix launches a fantasy epic to rival Game of Thrones. Every streaming service and premium cable company is rushing to fill the vacuum left by HBO’s sprawling narrative that dominated the TV landscape during its eight-season run.
HBO is betting on their silver-screen adaptation of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials. And Netflix is adapting the book series by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski that tells the story of Geralt of Rivia.
Gamers across the world know him from The Witcher series. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the best games in recent memory. And CD Projekt Red is one of the most highly-respected developers in the business. Their next project, Cyberpunk 2077, will likely be the game to beat in 2020.
All that means The Witcher on Netflix might have a stronger magnetism for audiences when it debuts on December 20th. The trailers have been exciting.
