Kwalee is bringing the likes of Way of the Samurai, Bushido Blade, and Dark Souls into their upcoming title Die by the Blade. This 1v1 sword fighting game is focusing heavily on combo memorization and knowing when to properly parry in this high-stakes one-hit kill multiplayer. Players need to be ready for constantly intense battles that could take just a matter of seconds to determine a winner.
Taking on a samurai-punk aesthetic, Die by the Blade will not only feature ranked 1v1 multiplayer matches for players to test their swordsmanship across the globe but also include a story-driven campaign. Players will also be able to fully customize their characters to add their own style and flair. With a vast selection of weapons comes a variety of move sets to be mastered. Players should prepare themselves for brutal encounters and one-hit-kill multiplayer showdowns.
This game reminds me vaguely of the Deadliest Warrior which was based on the show on Spike TV. That game also featured weapon combat with realistic fighting mechanics. Some matches would only last a few seconds based on where and how the player was hit. That game was a great time and it looks like Triple Hill Interactive, Grindstone, and Toko Midori Games are looking to bring that quick intense gameplay back.
Die by the Blade is launching on November 3rd on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam. It will also launch on Nintendo Switch later in 2023.
