In a random turn of events, Nintendo has announced that the Wii U exclusive Pikmin 3 will soon be hitting the Switch with new content in tow. Pikmin 3 was one of the last few Wii U exclusives that hadn’t yet made the jump to the Nintendo Switch but the transition has been rumored for years. With this new release players will be able to enjoy new features such as full campaign co-op, new side missions (involving Olimar!), and alternate difficulty modes to make the game more enjoyable for a range of players. The game is slated for an October 30 release date at a retail price of $60.
I have had a fairly love hate relationship with Pikmin ever since the GameCube days. I didn’t care for the original but loved the sequel. When Pikmin 3 launched I quickly bought it and while I enjoyed it well enough it didn’t grab my attention. It did come at a time of transition for me so perhaps this rerelease is the perfect time to try it out again and see if it ropes me in better the second time around. One thing I will say hurts the appeal of this release to me is that it is going to be a full $60. This game is 7 years old at this point and has been sold for under $20 for a long time. Even with some added content I don’t think the game is worth $60. Come on Nintendo, this kind of stuff needs to be $40 tops!
What do you all think about Pikmin 3 leaving the Wii U behind and coming to the Switch?
