It seems that 2024 may be the biggest year for Star Wars in a few years. With the recent wrapping of The Bad Batch series, the ongoing season of the all-new series, The Acolyte, and the not-too-distant release of Ubisoft’s Star Wars: Outlaws, fans have a lot to chew on. And thanks to Ubisoft’s show at its annual Ubisoft Forward event, there’s about ten minutes worth of gameplay for viewers to digest. In fact, it’s the first real bit of gameplay we’ve gotten yet.
The gameplay showcase highlights some pretty exciting things if you’re a Star Wars fan. Though there are some pretty common systems and gameplay mechanics found in other games on display here, Star Wars games haven’t been given the open-world treatment in this form. From vast open-world planets to traverse, star systems to navigate, and iconic locales to explore, there’s a big focus on immersion.
What intrigues me as a player and SW fan is that this title takes place between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, making this a pretty contentious time for the galaxy at large. And with so much fan service already making its way into view, I’m eager to see what’s hidden until players actually get their hands on the game.
Star Wars: Outlaws releases on August 30, 2024, on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
