Hell is Us (Switch 2)

This is a strange, melancholy, quietly unsettling adventure, and it survives the trip to handheld fully intact. The atmosphere is what carries it, and atmosphere is usually the first thing to go when a game gets squeezed onto portable hardware. Not here. It still looks moody and oppressive in the right ways, and the sense of unease it builds doesn’t thin out on a smaller screen.

What keeps catching me off guard is how much the Switch 2 is handling for a $500 box. We’re a year and change in and games like this are running well enough that the compromise conversation barely comes up anymore. If you missed Hell is Us the first time, this version is a very good reason to fix that.

I will continue shouting from the rooftops that this game needs to be played by all, warts and all.

Mixtape (Switch 2)

I came to this one late and I’m glad I finally did. It’s a gorgeous game, drenched in nostalgia in a way that feels earned rather than cynical, and the Switch 2 version looks great.

It’s also absolutely a love-it-or-hate-it experience, and I understand the people who bounce off. I’m not one of them. I had a genuinely great time with it, and the handheld option suits it well.

The Jackbox Party Pack 12 (PC)

Jackbox has been doing this long enough that you’d expect diminishing returns by now, and somehow they keep landing. Twelve packs deep and the new five hold up: well-built, properly tested, and funny without leaning on the same gags the earlier packs already used.

As always the real test is a room full of people and a group chat full of phones, and this one passed. It’s going to be in rotation at my place through the holidays. If you’ve got a party coming up, this is an easy purchase.

LEGO Harry Potter Collection (Switch 2)

Back to Hogwarts, and it’s as charming as ever. The LEGO formula has aged well here, and the collection is a solid, well-handled port.

Nothing reinvented, nothing needed reinventing. If you’ve got any affection for this series, you already know whether you want it. Sign me up.

Like Harry Potter? You’ll love this. No brainer.

BeamNG.drive (PS5)

There are rough edges here, and you’ll find them. But the physics playground underneath is still one of the most entertaining things in the genre, and it looks terrific on PS5.

Race it properly or spend an hour launching cars off cliffs to see what happens. Both are valid. That freedom is the entire appeal and it survives the console transition.

GO GO GO!

REKA (PC)

There’s real charm in places, and some moments where the whole thing clicks and you can see what it wants to be. The rough edges keep getting in the way though.

As a builder it’s perfectly fine. The problem is that “perfectly fine” is a tough sell in a genre this crowded, with several more polished options already on your wishlist. Worth watching, maybe not worth buying yet.

Remothered 3: Red Nun’s Legacy (PC)

There are a few decent scares in here, and for Halloween week you could do worse. That’s about the extent of the praise I can offer.

Everything around those moments is thin. The pacing drags, the design feels dated rather than deliberately retro, and there are several better horror options competing for the same evening. Only worth it if you’ve exhausted the alternatives.

Need to finish the trilogy and loved the other games? Sure but for the rest, meh.
