Sony and Insomniac Games have blessed us this day with a trailer at Summer Game Fest that reveals the official release date for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. With how long the game went without an official release date it seemed like the game would suffer from delays and prevent a release for 2023. Is this still the case? Did Insomniac’s big release date trailer offer news of delays?
Before that, it goes without saying that Miles Morales and Peter Parker will be the playable characters throughout the game. The original game and Miles’ spinoff did a great job of hyping up this inevitable team-up. But only the strongest villains can step up to these heroes.
The two big bads in the game are Venom and Kraven. Venom is well known and has appeared in many pieces of media outside of the comics. However, this iteration is very different from the one known by fans of the character. This Venom is not Eddie Brock or any prior holders of the mantle. It is not yet known who Venom is in the game, but it’s a safe bet that the only time to find out is when the game drops. Needless to say, he will be a big problem for Peter and Miles.
Kraven on the other hand is just a regular guy but he’s out for blood. Radioactive spider blood to be exact. The famous hunter is coming to New York to kill Peter, Miles, and any other heroes that just so happen to be in New York at the time. It’s possible that other heroes make an appearance in the game as well. It’s common knowledge that Insomniac has been working on Marvel’s Wolverine as well, but the idea that other heroes will make an appearance is both speculation and unconfirmed.
The world will be roughly the same as the New York everyone knows and loves but now Peter will have his own version of the Symbiote suit. It looks like this will unlock a more aggressive move set and even faster web swinging across city streets. How will this new power affect Peter? Will Miles still be comfortable calling Peter his hero?
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will hit the PlayStation 5 exclusively on October 20th of this year, 2023!
