Review: Illenium's Odyssey at The Sphere with Slander – A Night for the Books

If you haven’t been to The Sphere in Las Vegas yet, you truly haven’t experienced what a “show” or “concert” truly can be. Not only that, the tech behind The Sphere and it’s audiovisual wonderland truly feels like being inside a AAA video game but it surrounds you in every sense. It was almost like being inside the worlds best tech and music demo, with incredibly rendered scenes all night long that took our breath away.

Walking into The Sphere for Illenium's Odyssey, expectations were already sky high, but nobody was prepared for Slander to come out of the gate swinging the way they did. From the very first drop, it was clear that this dynamic duo had no intention of easing the crowd in gently.

Their hour-long opening set was a masterclass in dynamic range, swinging from hauntingly beautiful melodic vocal tracks that gave you chills straight into absolutely skull-rattling bass that hit you square in the chest. They treated that set like it was their headline show, and the energy they brought made it feel like one. Every transition was deliberate, every build earned its payoff, and by the time they wrapped up, several groups drenched in sweat and screaming for more.

As if Slander hadn't already left the crowd gasping, Illenium took the stage and the Odyssey visuals on The Sphere's interior display turned the venue into something out of a dream. The combination of his live energy and mixing, the soaring emotional anthems, and the immersive 360-degree visuals created an experience that simply cannot be replicated in any other venue on the planet.

The setlist wove through his latest album, Odyssey then wrapped up with some classics, from the early melodic bass days through the harder-edged recent material, and every moment felt intentional and cinematic on a scale that justified every bit of hype The Sphere has generated.

What made this night truly special was the way both acts complemented each other so perfectly. Slander set the tone by refusing to hold anything back, proving that an opening set can be just as memorable as a headliner when artists pour everything they have into it. And Illenium's Odyssey delivered on its promise of being more than a concert, it was a full sensory journey. If this is the future of live electronic music, the bar has been set impossibly high, and anyone lucky enough to have been in that room knows they witnessed something genuinely historic.

Do bring your hearing protection and motion sickness pills though if you are sensitive to either. This is a no-holds-barred, blistering production that does not hold back. Hang on and enjoy the ride.
