It looks like our beloved blue blur is going to be heading onto multiple screens as he is set to have both a new movie and game released in 2022! Both of these Sonic the Hedgehog trailer reveals happened during The Game Awards 2021, in which we got a very entertaining introduction from Ben Schwartz and a video greeting from Jim Carrey himself, and I couldn’t be more excited.
First, we will get a Sonic The Hedgehog 2 movie on April 8, 2022, and it will feature some more series favorite characters, including both Tails and Knuckles. This sequel title is being created by Paramount Pictures, which is the same team that put together the first title. You can check out the trailer yourself above.
After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr. Robotnik returns, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search of an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a globe-trotting journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.
Then, sometime in Holiday 2022, we will be getting a new game called Sonic Frontiers from SEGA that will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. The trailer for this game is rather vague, but the landscapes and camera angles they use give off the idea that there will be a more open environment to roam around in. It may be a new 3D adventure rather than a new side scroller. Ultimately, you can check it out below and see for yourself.
It seems the world’s favorite blue hedgehog is in for another big year! Which title are you more excited to check out?
