After rumors kept circulating about the possibility of a sequel to Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, the developer has teased a short video on Twitter that seemed to confirm that a new Sonic racing game is on the way.
Sega's tweet, which you can watch below, showed a 22-second clip with a caption that says merely "[ TOP SECRET ]." The video showed a closeup of a car with sounds of a revving engine filling the background. The tease ended with a dimmed silhouette of what appears to be the game's logo with the letter R lit up. Overall, the short clip teased Sega's confirmation of an upcoming Sonic racing game.
The last time a Sonic racing game was released was back in 2012 with Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. The game is somewhat similar to the formula of Mario Kart, which featured favorite and iconic characters from Sega games in an arcade-racer format.
Besides the tease for a new racing game, Sonic fans are in for a treat as Sega also announced Sonic Mania Plus, which will be a physical re-release of the critically acclaimed 2D Sonic title. This new iteration of the game will include new features and content including an Encore mode and the introduction of two new characters: Mighty and Ray.
Are you excited for Sega to officially announce a Sonic racing game? Which Sega character would you like to see battle it out on the tracks? I choose Bayonetta!
