It's impossible to talk about Solasta II without Baldur's Gate 3 looming large in the conversation. Larian's masterpiece cast a long shadow over the entire CRPG genre, and any game built on the bones of D&D 5th Edition rules is going to invite that comparison. But here's the thing: Solasta II isn't trying to be Baldur's Gate 3, and once you stop looking for that, you'll find a game that's carving out a genuinely compelling identity of its own, especially impressive for an Early Access launch.
Where Solasta II shines brightest is in the stuff that matters most: the gameplay and the worldbuilding. Combat encounters feel tactical and rewarding, leaning hard into the ruleset in a way that will make tabletop veterans feel right at home. The character creation system is a real standout, offering deep and satisfying build options that make you want to roll up party after party just to see what works. The world itself is rich with lore and atmosphere, giving you plenty of reasons to care about where you're going and why. These are the pillars that make a great RPG, and Tactical Adventures has nailed them. That said, this is Early Access, and it shows in some areas. Certain character models and environmental art feel rough around the edges, lacking the polish you'd expect from a finished product, and there are a handful of smaller issues, UI quirks, the occasional janky animation that remind you this is still a work in progress.
None of it is dealbreaking, though, and that's the key takeaway. The foundation here is rock solid, and if Tactical Adventures continues to build on what's already working, the 1.0 release could be something truly special. Consider us firmly on board for the ride!
