Sega is promising their future Sonic games will be a much higher quality than they have been as of late. MCVUK talked to Chief Brand Officer Ivo Gerscovich who said the following...
“Sega is really - as of this last year - putting a huge emphasis on quality...One of the things about Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice is that we held the title for a year, which is not something Sega has traditionally done, but this focus on quality is really about trying to take Sonic back to where it used to be"
I'll admit I steered clear of anything Sonic Boom related after the abysmal quality of their entry title to mark a new era in the franchise. Perhaps if they were looking to change the game they should've abandoned that era completely. It's not just the game that sucked when it comes to Sonic Boom, that scarf and new attitude are just as awful! Here's some footage of the game that's marking the new step for Sonic in action...
I don't think handheld has ever been a problem for the Sonic franchise. That game looks alright but I think it really defeats the core purpose of why people play Sonic. They want to go FAST. That's the whole core of the game and for whatever reason, Sega has been obsessed with making it about puzzle solving!
If I told you I knew the answer as to how Sonic can be great again I would be lying. What I do know is I liked the first one, and the Gamecube Directors Cut. Make a game similar to those two and I'll likely be happy!
