The next season for the popular free-to-play portal-based first-person shooter game Splitegate is going live tomorrow! For Beat Season 2, 1047 Games has made quite a few updates to the game including renaming the mode ‘Oddball’ to ‘Splitball’ and a complete remaster of the map ‘Abyss’ which can be seen in the comparison video below.
Of course, that’s not all that is coming with this new season. Players can expect to see a brand new battle pass full of rewards that will have you looking fresher than ever. They also added a feature called ‘Wet Ocean’ to the game maker side of the game and in it, you will be able to do a number of things, including design an underwater base. Lastly, they have added three new game modes - Lockdown, Hotzone, and Juggernaut.
While these new game modes will simply be on the list for players to choose from when setting up or searching for a custom game to play, Juggernaut is a mode that will only be found in the Free-for-All Deathmatch section. Now, let’s break down these new game modes!
Juggernaut: One player will be the Juggernaut, selected at random at the start of the game, and in order to win this mode you will need to have spent the most time as the Juggernaut. The player who gets the kill becomes the Juggernaut. Beware though, the Juggernaut can’t make portals, but they can use other portals. The Juggernaut’s HP will be boosted to 250 and their movement is sped up to be faster than other players.
Hotzone: This mode is similar to King of the Hill, but the spot stays in place until it is controlled by one of the teams. To take the zone, the team must have at least one player in the zone uncontested, meaning without an opposing team player in the zone as well. Once a zone is captured, it will relocate. The team with the most zone captures at the end of the game wins.
Lockdown: Designed as an extra intense zone capture mode, your team must secure all three capture zones at the same time in order to score a point. The first team to score two points wins.
Splitgate’s Beta Season 2 update officially begins on June 2nd for all available platforms. Following this new season update will be the Splitgate Pro Series, so after you try out these new modes, don’t forget to check out their upcoming esports event.
