In a tweet to fans a couple of days ago, Square Enix announced that they are in the process of developing another game for the Tomb Raider franchise. "A new Tomb Raider game is coming," the tweet reads.
Square Enix did not provide any details or specific information regarding the project including which platforms it will be released to. According to Square Enix, it will be implementing a new approach this time with the way they announce upcoming releases. Instead of having a long marketing campaign before the launch of the actual product, the publisher is trying to shorten its marketing cycle.
"Driven by our goal of putting our fans first, we want you to know that it won't be very long between the official reveal and when you can play." The announcement also continued that, "Our journey together will begin with a major event in 2018."
Although specifics were not given, we can assume that the major event the tweet is talking about would be the release of the upcoming Tomb Raider film, starring Alicia Vikander that is set to hit theaters on March 16, 2018, more on that here.
If we look at it further, the company said that they want to shorten the marketing cycle from the initial announcement to release. If an official announcement is made on the movie's premiere next year, then can we safely assume that the game will follow soon, probably by the end of 2018?
