An all-new strategy role-playing game (RPG) is coming to all platforms from producer Square Enix and developer Lancarse Ltd. Announced today at Sony’s State of Play event, The DioField Chronicle is a massive departure from the pixel aesthetic of this month’s Triangle Strategy. Still, it promises the same deep, involving, tactical gameplay we’ve come to expect from Square Enix games in this genre.
Coming in strong with an announcement trailer at today’s State of Play, we learn that the island Kingdom of Alletain has been called to battle after remaining unaffected by the war between the opposing forces of the Rowetale Alliance and the Trovel-Schoevian Empire. Alletain has many deposits of the mineral Jade, which is necessary for working magic. When Imperial forces invade Alletain, everything must be put on the line for this group of mercenaries named ‘Blue Fox’ to save their homeland.
New to the game, is the ‘Real-Time Tactical Battle’ system, or RTTB for short. Using the system, players can control the Blue Fox mercenaries in real-time dioramic battles. The game also has several well-known names attached to it: from concept artist Isamu Kamikokuryo (Final Fantasy XII, XIII) to composers Ramin Djawadi and Brandon Campbell (Game of Thrones).
The DioField Chronicle releases this year for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
