Sony’s September 2025 State of Play arrived at a time when gaming hype is at an all-time high, with buzz surrounding recent releases like Silent Hill f, Dying Light: The Beast, and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. But did the showcase itself live up to the excitement? Here’s everything that was revealed.
Saros
Kicking off the show was a deeper look at Saros. We saw a good chunk of gameplay, though honestly, it gave off vibes of a game you’d spot in the background of a movie rather than something that commands center stage. That said, it’s early—this one could surprise us.
Zero Parades - For Dead Spies
Next up was Zero Parades – For Dead Spies, a story-driven puzzle game about paranoia, betrayal, and redemption. The art style is striking, and the themes sound intriguing, though I’m curious how the pacing will hold up. It’s set for 2026, and I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on it.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
One of the bigger surprises: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is officially coming to PlayStation this fall. Not the kind of announcement you’d expect at a State of Play.
Battlefield 6
First-person shooters haven’t been the most exciting space lately, but Battlefield 6 is aiming to reignite the fire. Sony showcased the campaign trailer, full of intense action and a cast of new characters. Fingers crossed this one lands.
Deus Ex Remastered
A remaster of Deus Ex was announced, which is both exciting and concerning. The original is a classic from what many consider a golden era of gaming, but remasters lately haven’t always done justice to their source material. Hopefully this one avoids the “cash grab” curse. (Side note: Nightdive really should’ve been the studio behind this.)
Halloween: The Game
After a rocky reveal earlier this year, Halloween: The Game returned with gameplay and a release date. Releasing next fall, it looks more in line with Friday the 13th than Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and that’s a good thing. Plenty of time left for more reveals before launch.
Last Epoch - Orobyss Expansion
Fans of Last Epoch seemed hyped for its Orobyss expansion. Personally, when I want an ARPG, I usually boot up Path of Exile 2, but it’s great to see another title finding success.
The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin
Anime adaptations in gaming often feel like cash grabs, and the trailer for Seven Deadly Sins: Origin didn’t fully shake that feeling. While labeled as gameplay, it could easily be a PC port of a mobile title. That said, fans of the IP seem excited—here’s hoping it delivers.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds - Mega Man DLC
Mario Kart may finally have some real competition. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds continues to build momentum, and the reveal of its Mega Man DLC was a highlight. If Sega keeps adding crossover content, this could evolve into the Smash Bros. of arcade racers.
Nioh 3
Team Ninja returned to the stage with Nioh 3. If the past games are any indication, expect brutal difficulty and precise combat. Best of all, it launches in February—much sooner than expected.
Dynasty Warriors 3 Complete Edition Remastered
While Dynasty Warriors 3 is beloved, it’s hard to argue the series needs a remaster when there are already so many entries. A new installment might have been the better play.
Code Vein II
After making its debut at Summer Games Fest, Code Vein II reappeared here with a release date: January. The sequel looks like a solid entry point for soulslike newcomers, thanks to its flashy combat, intuitive character creator, and intriguing companion system.
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles
The fan-favorite Final Fantasy Tactics returns in The Ivalice Chronicles. While I personally enjoyed the Game Boy Advance entry most, this remaster will no doubt please fans. With release so close, though, its State of Play slot felt unnecessary.
Let It Die: Inferno
Let It Die: Inferno, the sequel to 2016’s cult hit, looks like an absolute fever dream of a roguelite. I’m undecided on it for now, but with a December release, I’ll probably give it a shot.
Chronoscript: The Endless End
This Metroidvania stands out with a unique pen-and-paper art style. Chronoscript: The Endless End looks promising, but with the flood of Metroidvanias these days, it’s hard for me to get too excited.
Crimson Desert
Perhaps the most hyped reveal of the showcase, Crimson Desert once again impressed with its trailer. And with a release date set for March 19th, the wait isn’t long.
Pulse Elevate Wireless Speakers
Sony also unveiled its PlayStation-branded Pulse Elevate wireless surround sound speakers. While surround sound is nice, many gamers will likely stick to headphones. No pricing was revealed.
PlayStation Plus - October Updates
October’s PS Plus lineup is a good one: Alan Wake 2, Tekken 3, Soulcalibur 3, and more. Not a bad deal at all this month.
Gran Turismo 7 - Spec III
To celebrate its massive fanbase, Gran Turismo 7 is getting a Spec III update, packed with new features, tracks, and cars. A solid boost for one of the most popular racing sims ever made.
God of War 20th Anniversary Limited Edition DualSense
God of War turns 20, and Sony is celebrating with a sleek limited-edition DualSense controller. Expect this one to sell fast—keep your eyes peeled.
Marvel’s Wolverine
And finally, the show closed with a bang: a new trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine. Any doubts about tone were erased instantly—it’s Rated M, bloody, and brutal. Insomniac looks to be going all-in, and this was easily one of the most jaw-dropping moments of the entire showcase.
Final Thoughts
Overall, this State of Play had a little bit of everything—remasters, sequels, expansions, and big reveals. While not every announcement landed, Sony closed strong, and the variety on display proves 2026 is shaping up to be an incredible year for gaming.
