The Lego franchise has long evolved past the simple physical toy you can buy at retail stores. Movies, television shows, and a whole lot of video games have come out of this brand, commonly with a creative angle or mechanic built in.
Of course, some of these brick-based experiences are more fun than others. If you’ve been playing the recently released Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight already, here are five other Lego games you should check out after seeing the Caped Crusader’s journey to its conclusion.
5. Lego City Undercover
Due to their commonly younger audience, a lot of Lego games are simple platformers. Nothing wrong with that, but sometimes you want more variety. A wonderful stand out among those is Lego City Undercover. It isn't a Grand Theft Auto clone, but it's difficult to not make the comparison.
This open-world game lets you bust criminals and use whatever vehicle you find to explore the city. An undercover disguise system also allows you to swap between 300+ different disguises separated into eight different skill set categories. Well-written humor and a co-op mode make this a delight for kids and adults alike.
4. Lego Party
While there have been many attempts at creating a party game filled with minigames and typically boardgame-like movement, few feel as enjoyable as the Mario Party series. Whether it's the quality of the minigames or simply a niche IP, nothing comes close.
Which is why Lego Party is such an impressive accomplishment. Funny dialogue, unique minigames, and fun Lego-centric mechanics allow for a great customizable experience. It's not only a standout Lego game, but a standout party game that serves as an excellent alternative to Nintendo's Mushroom Kingdom escapades.
3. Lego Voyagers
Although Lego is a brand that focuses a little more heavily on younger audiences, their games aren't all slapstick humor with easy gameplay. They also have some serene puzzle games that offer creative challenges.
Developed by the same team that made Lego Builder's Journey, Lego Voyagers is a calm co-op puzzle-platformer that has you take the role of a 1x1 Lego brick. You and a partner will have to create and control different contraptions (sometimes the same one!) to solve puzzles.
2. Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
Anybody familiar with Lego games is probably aware of their IP-based collectathon platformers. Whether it was based on Harry Potter or Batman, you could find slapstick versions of your favorite characters with humorous retellings of their adventures. The sole complaint you might have is that some feel too similar.
That's where Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga stands out. It covers all three major Star Wars film trilogies and features a reworked combat system. You'll still be collecting studs while playing as obscure characters if you'd like, but the modern enhancements help it stand out from its predecessors.
1. Lego DC Super Villains
Out of all the various IPs that Lego has produced media for, DC is a big one. Even outside of games, including the recent Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, there are a ton of animated movies as well. Yet, what might be the best DC-related Lego game is Lego DC Super Villains.
In addition to being another open-world take on this familiar universe, the story follows a custom-made character in an adventure alongside many DC villains. The dialogue is hilarious and the story is pretty fun. Add on over 200 characters to play as (including superheroes) and you've got a unique experience worth playing and revisiting.
What’s great about Lego games is that there is a surprising amount of variety to discover. It won’t take long for you to discover a fun experience. There is also nothing wrong with playing some games aimed at a younger audience - have some whimsy!
