Japanese developer Treasure, in partnership with Nicalis, announced that they would be bringing the acclaimed classic arcade shooter, Ikaruga to the Nintendo Switch on May 29th.
Initially released in Japan arcades back in 2001, Ikaruga takes players to the adventures of rebel pilot Shinra as he fights enemy forces aboard his good ol’ Ikaruga, a warship that can change polarities if it wishes to. Given this, players are not just focused on shooting down enemies and dodging their attacks, but instead, players will also have to strategize the use of their polarity powers switching from black to white in the right moment.
Also, the Switch version of the game will let players choose between vertical and horizontal modes. However, since Ikaruga is a vertically oriented game, the availability of orientation options is excellent to have. Both screen orientation works with handheld or TV mode, with letter-boxing appearing on the sides of the screen if the player decides on the vertical setup in TV mode.
Lastly, the game includes three difficulty settings, co-op play, and a chapter-select menu. Overall, the game is mostly the same tactical shooter that fans experienced with its arcade release and later on in the Dreamcast, GameCube, PC, and Xbox 360.
Ikaruga is slated for a release on May 29, 2018, for the Nintendo Switch. Check out the teaser trailer for the game posted above.
