Rock Manor Games, the company behind Set A Watch and other adventurous tabletop games, partnered with Felipe Cagno last year to launch a Kickstarter campaign for The Few and Cursed, a deck-building game based on the eponymous comic from Cagno, an indie comic book creator.
With the retail copies of the game now available, it’s time to explore The Few and Cursed: The Board Game. It’s a competitive action-adventure game designed by Mike Gnade; players control one to four Curse Chasers, who “explore the desert of the Pacific Ocean and fight their way through gangs, capture the biggest bounties, defeat monsters, complete jobs, and discover supernatural artifacts on their path to fame or infamy.”
On a post-apocalyptic Earth, most of the water on the planet has been gone for seventy years.
Even though what was left of mankind found a way to adapt using water, the most valuable asset on the planet, as currency, survival turned the world into a wicked wasteland where it's either kill or be killed. And evil not only endured, it won.
People turned to dark arts, old tales of mischief, and curses to survive. Death is everywhere. But for every darkness there is light - and among the few and cursed are those willing to fight to bring balance to the land: the Curse Chasers.
The collaboration with Felipe Cagno has brought the comic series to life as a deck-building tabletop game, and I’m excited to check it out!
Here’s what comes in the retail box. Besides all of the cards for the deck-building, there are miniatures and other game components that really flesh this game out quite a bit.
As far as deck-building games go, The Few and Cursed looks like a really luxurious experience replete with components and quality that’s beyond just cards.
The artwork is also fantastic, too, as it really anchors the players in the Western, apocalyptic setting.
