Free League Publishing has announced a new edition of Twilight: 2000, the classic RPG.
The game developer and publisher will be working with Game Designer’s Workshop and Amargosa Press to bring the tabletop roleplaying experience to players around the world. For the fourth edition, a boxed set will launch on Kickstarter in August of 2020, with an expected release in the first half of 2021.
Twilight: 2000 first released in 1984 from Game Designers' Workshop. The latest version of the game maintains the original setting—an alternate timeline where the Moscow Coup of 1991 succeeded and the Soviet Union never collapsed.
Tomas Härenstam, the founder of Free League Publishing, discussed the upcoming RPG and the partnership with Game Designer’s Workshop:
The first edition of Twilight: 2000 was an iconic game for me back in the '80s, and we are humbled and honored to work with Marc Miller and Game Designers’ Workshop to bring a new edition to life. The original game was really ahead of its time. Our goal is to build on the amazing sandbox survival gameplay and develop it further, making it more accessible using the tools of modern game design.
Amargosa Press, Black Monk Games, and Far Future Enterprises are also working on the Twilight: 2000 project.
Tabletop RPG experience of the design team includes ALIEN, Mutant: Year Zero, Conan, Doctor Who, The One Ring, Symbaroum, and so many more popular roleplaying games.
If you’re unfamiliar with Twilight: 2000, players assume the role of survivors in the aftermath of World War III. They can be either soldiers or civilians., but the goal remains the same—survive the daily hardships of post-apocalyptic life and discover the secrets of Operation Reset. A better world is out there, somewhere.
Free League Publishing promises more information about the new edition of Twilight: 2000 soon.
