The Last Guardian didn't sell well in its first week out on shelves. It did so bad in fact, that Eurogamer reports the game didn't even outsell the Xbox One version of Dead Rising 4 which came in 5th in sales charts. On the flip side, it's still the most successful game that Fumito Ueda has created as it has outsold both Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.
Both of those titles are viewed as iconic among a strong community of gamers, so maybe there is hope for the game yet. The game has been in development for 10 years, so it's not that surprising that enthusiasm for the game has waned since it's initial announcement. As critically acclaimed as Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are, a lot of their widespread appeal came long after their launch so it shouldn't be all that surprising The Last Guardian isn't flying off the shelves.
