With Takaeda’s release approaching quickly, the Mortal Kombat 1 Year 2 announcement is coming even sooner. On July 26th, at San Diego Comic-Con, details about Year 2 for MK1 will be revealed, likely including a teaser for Kombat Pack 2. While there are already “leaks” for Kombat Pack 2, nothing is confirmed yet. Here are my predictions for Kombat Pack 2.
Mortal Kombat Characters
Noob Saibot
Noob Saibot is easily one of the fan favorites in the series. He has also been a very consistant character in the series appearing in all 10 of the main games since his debut in Mortal Kombat II. In Mortal Kombat 4 he was a secret fighter, to me this holds at least a bit of importance, since MK1 has really set its focus on the 3D era fighters. So since he has been in almost every Mortal Kombat game since his birth, and the fact that he was a secret MK4 to me there is no doubt he will make his way into MK1.
Kung Jin
Kung Jin debuted in Mortal Kombat X, one of the new era games, alongside Takaeda. With Takaeda recently added to the roster through the first Kombat Pack, I believe Kung Jin will also make his return. Their simultaneous debuts suggest a strong likelihood of his inclusion. Additionally, if you play through the story, you can see Kung Jin in the ending sequence, further supporting his potential return.
Jarek
Jarek is a character who hasn't had much time in the spotlight. However, he debuted in Mortal Kombat 4, fitting the theme of MK1 by highlighting 3D era characters. In Mortal Kombat 1, Jarek is mentioned in Smoke's Mirror match intro as being responsible for the death of Smoke's parents. As the second-in-command of the Black Dragon, Jarek would be an excellent introduction for the Black Dragon Clan into MK1.
Non-MK Characters
There are many rumors suggesting that Ghostface and a few other characters will be part of Kombat Pack 2, but I don't believe this will be the case. Kombat Packs in the past have generally followed a theme: MKX featured horror characters, MK11 had retro action movie characters, and so far, MK1 has included superhero characters. Therefore, I believe Kombat Pack 2 will likely follow the same theme. Here are the characters I think we might see.
Billy Butcher (Karl Urban)
If we stick to the same universe of characters introduced in Kombat Pack 1, a fitting opponent for Homelander would be The Butcher. Bringing The Butcher into the game has an added benefit: Karl Urban, who portrays The Butcher, already has ties to Mortal Kombat, as he will be playing Johnny Cage in the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie. This connection should make it easy to secure his likeness and voice for the game. Additionally, The Butcher's unique abilities ensure he wouldn't feel like a copy-paste of Homelander.
Killer Croc/King Shark
Another DC character could be a possibility, but I think Batman or another gunslinger like Deadshot would be too obvious. Adding a Superman-like character is also redundant, given that Omni-Man and Homelander already fill that role. To stay within the Suicide Squad realm alongside Peacemaker, we could see Killer Croc or King Shark. Both characters, with their reliance on strength and animal-like features, would offer unique abilities and fun character interactions.
Invincible/Atom Eve/Rex Splode
Finding a suitable counterpart for Omni-Man is challenging. The obvious choice would be Invincible, but he is essentially a younger version of Omni-Man without unique abilities. Atom Eve or Rex Splode could be interesting additions, but both characters are less well-known than Omni-Man or Invincible.
Who do you think will be part of Kombat Pack 2?
