Trailer Reveal For OPERATION WOLF RETURNS: FIRST MISSION VR

Revisiting classic video games with a fresh coat of paint is always an interesting thing to see. But what about when an old game is given an entirely new medium like virtual reality (VR)? Virtuallyz Gaming and publisher Microids have taken Operation Wolf, a side-scrolling rail shooter arcade game from the 80s, and plunked it down into a VR environment, titling it Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission VR. The game was originally created by Taito so let’s see if this new version has enough to make the original creators proud.

The campaign allows for nonstop shooter action as the player takes the reigns of a special agent battling an evil criminal organization. General Viper, the leader of said organization, has also developed a super weapon. The player will traverse six levels to destroy enemy bases, free hostages, disable the superweapon, and save the world.

Alongside the campaign is a survival mode which is basically a horde mode where the player takes on endless waves of enemies. To take these enemies out one would need a full-blown Rambo arsenal, right? Operation Wolf provides that with weapons like SMGs, shotguns, grenade launchers, and more! A new cartoony art style is here too to make all the carnage and mayhem much more satisfying to the eyes.

Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission VR will be available July 13th on Steam VR, Meta Quest 2, PlayStation VR 2, and Pico 4. A non-VR version titled Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission will come in Fall 2023 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC will only get a digital release.
