Ubisoft has finally released gameplay footage for Assassin’s Creed: Mirage. It seemed like it wasn’t going to come but thankfully that’s not the case. The trailer has a decent runtime and takes that opportunity to show exactly what players were hoping to see; parkour, combat, and the setting.
The game was meant to initially be downloadable content for Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla so there are aspects of Mirage that visually resemble the previous game, but this is to be expected. The game looks better than Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla though. The lighting is more dynamic, and the denser city of Baghdad gives way to a much more interesting environment to look at.
Baghdad is on display for this trailer. The location is based on the medieval version of the city prior to the conquest of the Mongol Horde. It’s a vibrant city and Ubisoft made sure to utilize bright colors to enhance the game’s appearance. The setting’s visuals can be accurately described as Assassin’s Creed, the original, meets Assassin’s Creed: Origins. This is due to the dense middle eastern city but with the vibrant fauna colors of Egypt.
Basim is the focal point of this game and the story deals with his adventures before Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla. Since Basim is an assassin and Eivor wasn’t, the parkour mechanics are back! Unique animations for climbing walls, hurdling over obstacles, and leaping from buildings make their return and give the movement system a depth that has been sorely lacking. The combat resembles older games as well, with Basim doing precise execution animations on his foes just like Ezio and Connor. The whole game seems to be a massive step up from Valhalla. Only time will tell if the game can live up to the promises of the trailer.
Assassin’s Creed: Mirage will be released on October 12th of 2023 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Amazon Luna, and PC via the Epic Games Store and the Ubisoft Store. Pre-orders are available for the Standard Edition, Deluxe Edition, and Collector’s Edition. Players who pre-order will get an extra mission called The Forty Thieves which revolves around the legend of Ali Baba.
