Fellow GameTyrant Podcast veteran Bryam Dayley and I have been playing the latest new indie title to set the internet ablaze, Toby Fox's quirky and unique RPG, Undertale. Well, we're not the only ones who have fallen in love with its weird take on the classic tropes of the role playing genre. The game just passed Valve's Half-Life 2 as the single highest rated game on Metacritic.
If you're not familiar with Metacritic, they compile all of the reviews from all the major sites on the internet and create an overall average score. It is one of the quickest ways to find out what people are saying about a game. Well, Undertale's Metacritic score is 97/100. To put that in perspective, that beats out Grand Theft Auto V (96/100) and Bioshock (96/100). Even the cultural phenomenon that is Minecraft (94/100) falls short!
Undertale costs a humble $9.99 and was made by one dude with a Kickstarter budget of $51,124. I sure hope this means we will see more from Toby Fox and their silly sense of humor. If you haven't yet, give it a play.
