To say video gaming has developed over the last decade is something of an understatement. For example, the world of eSports has come on leaps and bounds in recent years, and one of the primary factors for that has been the FIFA franchise. The beloved video game was at the forefront of online gaming thanks to the creation of the FIFA Interactive World Cup. However, at the end of the current season, EA Sports FIFA franchise will be rebranded as EA Sports FC, as they were unable to come to terms on a new rights deal with world football’s governing body. Before then, however, we still have plenty of content yet to be released, including the Premier League Team of the Season.
But what can we expect to see from it this term? One thing that is certain is that it will be much changed from the title of previous years. In the last couple of years, the Premier League TOTS has been dominated by Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea stars, but with the plight of those latter two this term, it will look completely different in 2023.
Plenty of Arsenal’s Young Guns
One thing you can expect to see is a bucket load of Arsenal’s young stars. The Gunners have led the Premier League for the vast majority of the campaign. Three consecutive draws firstly away at Liverpool, then away at West Ham, and finally at home to rock-bottom Southampton has seen Mikel Arteta’s men go from favourites to outsiders in the title race, but there will be plenty of Arsenal talent in the PL TOTS.
The likes of young wingers Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, captain Martin Ødegaard, defenders William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães, and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale have all shone brightly this term. Don’t be surprised to see all five of them in the upcoming Team of the Season.
Manchester City’s Leading Lights
The rest of the team will likely be made up of Manchester City’s top stars. Pep Guardiola’s Blues have clawed their way back into the title race in recent weeks, primarily thanks to the brilliance of striker Erling Haaland, creative midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, and winger Jack Grealish, who is finally starting to show why the club forked out £100m for his services in the summer of 2021. Defender Ruben Dias should also feature.
FIFA 23 is planned to release on September 30th for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
