If you're not in the know, Bac Bo is a live dice game you play for real money over a video stream. Four dice are split into two pairs. One pair is labelled Player and the other is labelled Banker. Whichever pair adds up to the higher number wins the round, and if both pairs add up to the same number, the round is a tie. You place your bet on Player, Banker or Tie before the dice are rolled, and a round takes well under a minute.

The odds are easier to follow than they first look, because they come from a familiar idea. When you roll two dice, middle totals like 6, 7 and 8 come up often, since many different dice combinations make them. A 2 or a 12 is rare, because only a double one or a double six can produce it. If you have ever played Catan, the small dots (called pips) printed under each number token show exactly this pattern. That one idea explains how every bet in Bac Bo is priced, and we will come back to it below.

The name causes confusion, so a quick clarification first. Bac Bo sounds like Sic Bo, but it is a different game. Many lobbies file it under baccarat, even though it uses no cards. Pragmatic Play's Mega Sic Bac looks similar at a glance, and players regularly open it by mistake. This guide will remedy this confusion by explaining the bets in plain terms.

As for where to play, Bac Bo is made by Evolution, the studio behind many of the live tables Canadians already use. In Ontario you can find it on the provincial OLG.ca site and at licensed private sites. In the rest of Canada, it is available at private brands such as the three listed below. Visitors from Ontario and Alberta use the brand's locally registered site.

Where to Play

If you want a Bac Bo table right now, you may start with these three iGaming brands below. The legal gambling age applies, and please play responsibly; casino games are games of chance, not skill, so expect losses over time. This article is written from a national, Rest of Canada perspective. Players based in Ontario and Alberta should be routed to each brand's registered and respective site for that province. All three run Evolution's live studio tables.

  • Jackpot City: Evolution live studio, Bac Bo table in the live lobby, found fastest by typing Bac Bo into the live-casino search box.
  • Spin Casino: Evolution Bac Bo alongside its Pragmatic Play dice tables.
  • Ruby Fortune: Bac Bo inside the Evolution section of the live lobby, same search-box route.

The minimum age to play Bac Bo online for money is 19, or 18 in Quebec, Manitoba and Alberta. Good resources for help include ResponsibleGambling.org (national level), ConnexOntario.ca (ON) and gamesenseab.ca (AB), plus more local resources in the help section at the end of this article.

It's helpful to know that Evolution lists Bac Bo in both its baccarat category and its dice category. The search box is also quicker than scrolling. If you see a tile marked First Person, that is the random-number version, covered further down. If you played the tables in our live Sic Bo guide, you already know the lobby layout.

Bac Bo Is Not Baccarat and Not Sic Bo

Evolution calls the game Dice-Baccarat, and that label is accurate in both halves. From baccarat it keeps the three-way bet, Player, Banker or Tie, and the habit of revealing the result in stages. From dice games it takes the shakers. What it loses is everything that makes baccarat slow to learn. There are no cards, no third-card rule, and no five percent commission on Banker.

The table has four sealed shakers. Two belong to Player and two to Banker. When betting closes, the shakers run and the dice settle one shaker at a time, so the lead can swap before the last die stops. Nobody touches the dice at any point. The host reads the totals, and the round is over in under a minute.

Compared with Sic Bo, the board is tiny. Sic Bo offers around fifty bets on a single three-dice roll. Bac Bo offers three bets on a head-to-head comparison. If Sic Bo is a dice pool, Bac Bo is a duel. That difference is also why the pricing is so easy to check by hand.

Where Bac Bo Comes From

Sic Bo has centuries behind it. Bac Bo has four years. Evolution released the game on 26 January 2022 as a studio design, not a revival of anything played in a land-based pit. The name is a straight blend of its two parents, and Evolution's chief product officer Todd Haushalter said as much at launch, describing it as a game that "blends the essence of two classic games, Baccarat and Sic Bo." The stated goal was to keep baccarat's slow reveal and its chance of a late turnaround while cutting the rules down to a dice roll anyone can follow.

That design decision explains most of what you see at the table. Baccarat's third-card rule exists to add tension to a card draw. Bac Bo gets the same tension from four shakers stopping one after another, which is why the sequence is slow for a dice game. The rest of the family arrived quickly. Pragmatic Play answered with Mega Sic Bac in 2024, and Evolution added Lightning Bac Bo and First Person Bac Bo in 2025. So when a lobby shows you four dice-baccarat tiles, all of them trace back to a single 2022 release.

Two Dice, 36 Ways, One Familiar Curve

Let's start with one side. Two dice make 36 equally likely combinations. There is one way to roll a 2, six ways to roll a 7, and one way to roll a 12. The full ladder is 1-2-3-4-5-6-5-4-3-2-1. The Catan rulebook prints exactly those numbers as pips on its tokens, which is why most gamers can recite the curve without thinking about it.

Bac Bo compares two independent rolls from that curve. That gives 36 times 36, or 1,296 equally likely four-dice outcomes. Counting them is quick. In 575 of those outcomes Player's total is higher. In another 575, Banker's is higher. In the remaining 146, the totals match. As percentages, that is 44.37 percent Player, 44.37 percent Banker, and 11.27 percent Tie.

Two things follow. First, Player and Banker are perfectly symmetric. There is no built-in Banker edge the way there is in card baccarat, because dice have no memory and no shoe. Second, ties are common. Better than one round in nine ends level, which is far more often than the roughly nine percent tie rate in baccarat.

Ties do not split evenly across totals, though. For both sides to land on 2, each needs double ones. That is one combination times one combination, so two outcomes in 1,296 once you include the 12-12 mirror. For both sides to land on 7, there are six ways each, or 36 combinations for that total alone. Add up every tied total and you get the 146. That uneven spread is the key to the one bet in Bac Bo that needs real explanation.

Player, Banker and Tie, Priced From All 1,296 Outcomes

Player and Banker pay even money. When the round ties, those bets do not push the way they would in baccarat. Instead you get 90 percent of the stake back. That ten percent clip on 11.27 percent of rounds is the entire house margin on the side bets. Work it through: 575 wins paying 2 units, plus 146 ties returning 0.9 units, divided by 1,296 rounds, comes to 98.87 percent. Evolution publishes the same figure, which translates to a 1.13 percent edge. For a live table game with one decision, that is efficient pricing.

The Tie bet pays on a ladder set by the tied total, meaning the two-dice total each side shows, not the four-dice sum.

  • Tie on 2 or 12 pays 88 to 1 (two outcomes in 1,296, about one round in 648)

  • Tie on 3 or 11 pays 25 to 1 (eight outcomes)

  • Tie on 4 or 10 pays 10 to 1 (18 outcomes)

  • Tie on 5 or 9 pays 6 to 1 (32 outcomes)

  • Tie on 6, 7 or 8 pays 4 to 1 (86 outcomes)

Lay that ladder next to the pip chart and it is the same shape upside down. One pip on the token, 88 to 1 on the table. Five or six pips, 4 to 1. The payout rises exactly as the number of ways to make the total falls.

Now the part the payout board does not tell you. You cannot bet on a specific tied total. The Tie bet covers all of them at once, so the question is where its return actually comes from. Summing every rung, the Tie bet returns 1,238 units across 1,296 rounds, or 95.52 percent, a 4.48 percent edge. Of those 1,238 units, the 88 to 1 rung contributes 178, or 14.4 percent. The 4 to 1 rung on 6, 7 and 8 contributes 430, or 34.7 percent. The number printed largest on the felt is the one doing the least work. Most of the time a Tie bet wins, it wins at 4 to 1 or 6 to 1.

So the honest pricing summary is short. Player and Banker cost 1.13 percent per round. Tie costs 4.48 percent per round and pays out in a lumpy pattern dominated by the middle totals.

Lightning, First Person and the Pragmatic Lookalike

Evolution now runs three versions of the game, and Pragmatic Play runs a close cousin. Knowing which tile you have opened matters because the pricing changes.

Lightning Bac Bo arrived in May 2025. Same four shakers, same three bets, with two changes. Every stake carries a mandatory 50 percent Lightning fee, so a ten dollar chip costs fifteen dollars. After betting closes, one die face from 1 to 6 is drawn and assigned a multiplier between 2x and 8x. If the winning side shows that face, the payout multiplies. To fund this, the base Tie ladder shrinks to 2 to 1, 3 to 1 or 4 to 1. Player and Banker keep the 98.87 percent return according to Evolution's published figure. The Tie return sits a little above 95 percent, and the in-game info panel shows the exact number for your table. The fee is not refunded when a side bet ties, so the real cost of a tied round is higher than on the standard table.

First Person Bac Bo is the random-number version with a rendered 3D table and no host. It appeared in Evolution's 2025 release schedule alongside the Lightning table. The rules and the paytable match the live table. The round is faster because nothing waits on a studio. A Go Live button sends you to the streamed table whenever you want the shared shake back.

Mega Sic Bac is Pragmatic Play's 2024 take on the same idea, and it is the game most often mistaken for Bac Bo. It also rolls two dice per side and offers Player, Banker and Tie at even money and 6 to 1. The differences start there. Mega Sic Bac adds 21 side bets on specific doubles, triples and four-of-a-kind across all four dice, and it applies random payout boosters each round. The published return is 98.26 percent on Player and Banker and 97.54 percent on Tie. In practice it is a busier board with a flatter Tie price. If you wanted the clean three-bet game, check the provider name on the tile before you sit down.

Where Bac Bo Is Available Across Canada

Ontario has the widest access. OLG.ca, the provincial platform, lists Bac Bo in its own lobby at the standard 98.87 percent return. Limits run from one dollar to one thousand dollars, and the site is 19-plus. Private operators registered with iGaming Ontario under the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario carry Evolution's full live catalogue, which includes all three versions.

Alberta opened its regulated market in 2026. The Alberta iGaming Corporation publishes a registry of approved sites, and Jackpot City, Ruby Fortune and Spin Casino appear on it under the operator Cadtree Limited. Open any of them from an Alberta address and you should be directed to the Alberta-registered site.

Everywhere else, from British Columbia to the Atlantic provinces, the same three brands run under Baytree Interactive with a Kahnawake Gaming Commission licence. Provincial platforms in those regions are a mixed picture. PlayNow in BC, Espacejeux in Quebec and Play Alberta each run live tables. None of them confirms Bac Bo on a public game list at the time of writing. If you want certainty, the Evolution tables at the registered private brands are the dependable route outside Ontario.

Straight Answers

Is Bac Bo baccarat?

No. It borrows the bet names and the staged reveal, and nothing else. There are no cards and no drawing rules.

Is the 88 to 1 the bet to chase?

No. A tie on 2 or 12 shows up about once in 648 rounds, and that rung supplies a seventh of the Tie bet's total return. The 4 to 1 rung on the middle totals supplies more than a third.

Does Banker have an edge over Player?

No. The dice are symmetric, there is no commission, and both bets return 98.87 percent. Pick either.

Do the roadmaps and streak panels predict anything?

No. Each shake is independent of the last one. The history display is there because baccarat players expect it, not because it carries information.

Is Lightning Bac Bo better value?

No. The side bets keep the same published return, but the 50 percent fee changes how the money arrives, not how much arrives on average. The Tie return is lower than on the standard table.

Five Habits That Hold Up at a Bac Bo Table

To be clear, none of these habits improves your odds. Bac Bo is a game of chance, every roll is independent, and the house margin applies no matter what you do.

  • Decide your stake before betting closes. Once the reveal begins, you cannot add another chip, but the staged finish can tempt you to increase your stake on the next round. Setting the amount in advance prevents that reaction.

  • Treat the 90 percent tie return as the real price of Player and Banker. It is the only place the house margin lives on those bets, and it arrives in more than one round out of nine.

  • Read the game-info panel once. It shows the table limits, the exact Tie ladder for the version you opened, and the Lightning fee if there is one. The panel is more reliable than any third-party table, including this one, because Evolution can adjust a paytable by region.

  • Use the live table when you want the pace controlled for you, and First Person when you want the round done quickly. The pricing is the same. The difference is how much time passes between decisions, which matters more than most players expect.

  • Set a session limit in the account tools before the first round. Every registered Canadian site has a deposit and time limit section. Setting it in advance takes about a minute and removes a decision you would otherwise make while the dice are moving.

Responsible Play and Help Resources

Bac Bo is fast, the rounds are short, and the tie reveal is built to hold attention. Those are reasons to decide your limits in advance and keep them. If play stops feeling like a choice, help is free and confidential across Canada.
