Neal Acree first made the jump from film and television to composing game music when he scored the opening cinematic to Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade in 2006. His list covers every expansion on the franchise since then as well as music for StarCraft, Diablo III, and Overwatch. Though perhaps best known for his work on Blizzard games, Neal has also branched out into other markets with works like his critically acclaimed score to Revelation Online for Chinese developer Netease.
In this podcast, we talk about what inspires him, how it is to work on one of the most successful gaming franchises in history, and how the team at Blizzard keeps things new and exciting with each expansion. We also touch base on how it was for him as a musician early in his career, and how he managed to hold on to a Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back vinyl from his childhood, then to have the chance to have John Williams sign it for him decades later.
