The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword was one of the last big hits for Nintendo’s mega popular Wii console. Finally realizing the full capabilities of the Wii’s motion controls, Skyward Sword also brought precise sword play to the Zelda franchise for the first time. Throughout the Wii U generation Nintendo began to provide HD remakes of previous Zelda titles. First came the release of Wind Waker HD, originally for the Nintendo GameCube, followed by Twilight Princess HD, also originally for GameCube and Wii. During this same period Nintendo also released remakes of the Seminal Ocarina of Time and cult hit Majora’s Mask, both originally Nintendo 64 titles, for the Nintendo 3DS.
With every major 3D Zelda game for home consoles seeing remakes fans have wondered if Skyward Sword would eventually get the same treatment. Well, let’s add some fuel to the fire of speculation shall we! At a recent Legend of Zelda concert, series Producer Eiji Aonuma may have teased a Nintendo Switch version of Skyward Sword. According to a social media post on Weibo, Aonuma is reported to have taken the stage at the concert and dropped the tease.
Now in no way is this confirmation of such a port being in development but it does heavily tease it. As with all rumors take this information with a grain of salt till an official announcement. I never made it through Skyward Sword during its original run. If this port does end up becoming a thing I might just have to give it another go! What do you all think about the possibility of Skyward Sword coming to the Switch and did you ever finish it on the Wii?
