ACEMAGIC K1 Mini PC Review: Another Mighty Mini

Quality and Design

Mini PCs just keep getting better. What used to be a category defined by compromise and underwhelming performance has evolved into a legitimate segment of capable, attractive, and surprisingly powerful little machines. The ACEMAGIC K1 is a perfect example of how far things have come. At just 128mm square and 41mm tall, the K1 is roughly the size of a stack of CD cases.

The matte black ABS and polycarbonate shell with a silver logo gives it a clean, minimalist look that blends effortlessly into any desk setup or entertainment center. It feels solid in hand with no creaking or flex, and the included VESA mount means you can tuck it behind a monitor and free up your desk entirely.

Connectivity is generous for something this small. The front panel offers two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, a USB-C port with DisplayPort output, and a 3.5mm audio jack. Around back you get four more USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.4b, and Gigabit Ethernet. That's a total of seven USB ports, triple 4K display output at 60Hz, and wired networking, all packed into a chassis you can hold in one hand. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 round out the wireless side. Under the hood, the Ryzen 5 7430U sits on AMD's proven Zen 3 architecture with 6 cores and 12 threads boosting up to 4.3GHz, paired with 16 GB of DDR4 RAM (upgradable to 64 GB) and a 512 GB M.2 SSD with a second M.2 slot supporting up to 4 TB of total storage.

Performance

We live in crazy time and the Ryzen 5 7430U may be an efficiency-class chip with at low wattage but don't let that fool you. For media applications, the K1 is an absolute star. 4K video playback is buttery smooth, streaming services run without a hitch, and the integrated Radeon Vega 7 graphics handle hardware-accelerated video decoding effortlessly. As a home theater PC, a streaming box, or a compact workstation for browsing, productivity, and video conferencing, the K1 punches well above its tiny footprint. The 80mm internal fan and dual exhaust vents keep things cool and quiet even during sustained workloads.

Where the K1 really surprised us was in its versatility across operating systems. Windows 11 Pro comes pre-installed and runs cleanly with no bloatware to speak of. But we didn't stop there. We loaded up Bazzite to turn the K1 into a dedicated Steam box, and the experience was fantastic. Indie titles, retro emulation, and lighter PC games ran beautifully, and the living room console experience felt remarkably polished for a sub-$500 machine. We also tested other Linux distributions and the K1 handled everything without drama. Light gaming on the Vega 7 iGPU is more than viable at 1080p with adjusted settings. Titles like Fortnite, League of Legends, and a wide range of indie games are perfectly playable, and the whole system sips power while doing it. This isn’t gonna win any gaming benchmarks but super impressive, especially if you put Bazzite on it.

Feedback and Verdict

If there's a knock on the K1, it's that the 16 GB of RAM ships in a single-channel configuration, which limits the integrated GPU's potential by a meaningful margin. Swapping in a dual-channel kit is an easy and inexpensive upgrade that would unlock noticeably better graphics performance.

The M.2 SSD is also SATA rather than NVMe, so while it's perfectly adequate for everyday use, upgrading to an NVMe drive in the available PCIe slot would give the system a tangible speed boost. These are minor quibbles for a machine at this price, and the fact that both upgrades are straightforward speaks to ACEMAGIC's thoughtful internal design.

At more than a fair price and frequently available for even less, the ACEMAGIC K1 is an easy recommendation. It's compact, well built, whisper quiet, impressively connected, and versatile enough to serve as a productivity workstation, a media center, a Linux playground, or a casual gaming box. No matter what we threw at it, the K1 just performed beautifully. For anyone looking for a capable little desktop that won't break the bank or take up any space, this one is highly recommended.
