A new 2D Metroid has been announced, and Samus is back yet again with more shooting and riposting. This time, however, she will mimic what the franchise’s titular creatures are known for, all thanks to a newly introduced, unwanted hunger. Here is everything you need to know about Metroid Ravenous.

Given Nintendo’s recent pricing scheme, Metroid Ravenous will most likely be available at $59.99 digital and $69.99 physical.
Does Metroid Ravenous have any special editions?
Yes, Metroid Ravenous will have its own Special Edition available at launch. It includes the base game, a SteelBook, and a Metroid Suit Samus amiibo. The price has yet to be confirmed.
How does Metroid Ravenous gameplay work?
Metroid Ravenous, similar to the rest of the Metroid franchise, is a 2D side-scrolling action-adventure game. Returning features include interconnected biomes that progressively unlock as the player gets new abilities and equipment as they explore the world.
As shown in the trailer, Samus will do so while surviving fast-paced, intense combat where shooting, melee countering, and riposte will be essential. On top of that, Ravenous also introduces the ability to absorb energy from Samus’ recently downed enemies, which will fill up a meter of sorts.
What is the plot and setting of Metroid Ravenous?
While the trailer for Metroid Ravenous was short, it did give players an idea of what to expect. Basically, Samus, after the events of Dread, is found stranded in an unknown moon’s depths following an attack by unknown, bug-like assailants.
This attack left her with grave injuries and an insatiable “hunger.” This hunger explains Samus’ need to constantly absorb the enemies’ energy, similar to what Metroids do, which explains her Metroid Suit, also shown in the trailer.
Who is developing Metroid Ravenous?
By the looks of it, MercurySteam, who worked on Metroid Dread and Metroid: Samus Returns, appears to be back to developing Metroid Ravenous alongside Nintendo. Nintendo, which often keeps the studios behind their games in total secrecy, has yet to confirm MercurySteam’s involvement.
