Some indie studios focus on creating games that ask tougher questions and get players to think about the bigger picture that goes on behind their screens. In a world threatened by climate change, developers Eat Create Sleep have put their efforts into creating an eco tycoon game called Among Ripples: Shallow Waters. This game is set to put players in a team that’s part of the Freshwater Biome Restoration Division.
As a member of this ragtag team of ecologists, players will travel through landscapes that have been ravaged and restore it. To do this, they will follow the story campaign to explore the inequalities of climate change and the scars left due to the change. Proudly working with real ecologists to make this game as accurate as possible, the games creative director Martin Greip stated:
“I believe games need to take their part in helping us come to grips with the problems we face, like any great medium can, and does! At our studio, we focus on games that ask tough questions and we invite the player to explore the answers.”
Among Ripples: Shallow Waters isn’t set to launch until 2021, but there is a playable demo on Steam for curious players to try out.
