Pirate Ship Battles + Battle Royale? YES PLEASE!
Look, to some, the whole Battle Royale scene might seem completely out of control. While there are a slew of horrible copycats, shoddy clones, and blatant ripoffs, there are some titles that are absolutely fantastic and/or unique. Surprisingly, I had an absolutely blast with the recent release of CALL OF DUTY: WARZONE in the grand scale of things but I was shocked to give the recently out of Early Access release of MAELSTROM on Steam.
Mixing Pirate ships with the whole Battle Royale genre seems strange at best, at least on paper or in thought. The results though from the fine folks at Gunpowder Games, I am proud to say, is a unique blend of fantastic ship battles with the tense excitement of Battle Royale. In the end, it works! Not only does it work, it’s a lot of fun to customize your ship killing bots but taking down and ramming an enemy ship is an absolute riot.
A whole slew of ships with some fantastic DLC options is just the beginning of the fantastic Free to Play title. There are a ton of Very Positive reviews on Steam and I love finding little hidden gems like this. In a world full of subpar or boring shooters, Maelstrom deserves your attention.
