Arcade racing fun is coming to the Nintendo Switch Next month when Asphalt 9: Legends releases on October 8th! Pre-purchasing of the free-to-play title has already begun allowing users to get the game pre-loaded onto their systems before launch. Asphalt 9: Legends will include all of its original modes released on the mobile version of the title including a single player campaign and online multiplayer modes. Over 60 cars are available for the game including real-world licensed cars like the Bugatti Chiron, McLaren P1 and the Lamborghini Terzo Millennio.
Nintendo Switch will be getting an exclusive splitscreen multiplayer mode so you and three friends can race on 41 different tracks on the same screen! A number of different control options will be available for players to use including Joy-Cons, Pro Controllers, gyroscopic motion controls, touch screen controls, and a new mode called Touchdrive. Because the title is free-to-play, it will not require a Nintendo Switch Online account to enjoy multiplayer functionality. Everything in the game is unlockable through normal play so you won’t need to spend any money on microtransactions if you don’t want to. If you wish to expedite the process an optional Starting Racer Pack will be available at launch that will unlock cars and resources. The Switch version of Asphalt 9 will also come with an exclusive BMW skin to try and unlock, which you can see above!
Gameloft’s racing franchise has made a name for itself on mobile devices over the years and I am excited to see it coming to Switch. When I got to demo the game back at E3 2019 I was impressed by how visually stunning the game was for the hybrid console. The arcade nature of the gameplay looked like a ton of fun and a natural fit for the Switch. The demo build I saw also had very solid performance so hopefully that translates to the final product. Also, who isn’t excited to have a 4-player splitscreen option?!
